Back to basics...

Before receiving my last feedback, I was slightly worried about the quality of my work in general and was panicking that my slightly lower assessed marks for my first two courses was due to this. I asked some advice of my tutor as explained in my last post and before actually advising me as in the previous feedback, he suggested maybe looking at other photographers work more.
Also, I explained to him that this was the course I was most concerned about as I felt it was more out of my comfort zone than any others, and that, again due to funding, I felt that I was rushing through it. He suggested to maybe taking a step back to look at my own photography and how I feel I would like to progress with it.

Now, I love taking photos and get a sense of achievement when I produce an image that I am really proud of  even more so, one that other people like. I don't by any means feel swayed from photography at all and want to progress as much as possible with it. I like taking more natural photos of people and find my end result is much better when I take shots of people unaware compared to those that are staged. Maybe because when I'm doing portrait type photos, I am maybe striving to create something that is impressive for the subject. I had a look at Ricky Adam's work as suggested by my tutor and will expand more on that in another post but  this photographer has showed me that staged portraits don't have to 'prim and proper', you can make great portrait photographing someone with a drink or a cigarette! It's all about capturing the person and not about making them look flawless.

I love landscape photography and am really excited for that next course but I'm not going to focus on that now. I have always loved Michael Kenna's work and that is the kind of photography I would love to produce one day, maybe not limited to landscapes as I'd like to have a bit of diversity but I like how clear and crisp he can make his images and how striking and dramatic he can make a landscape appear. Again, more on Kenna later.

Thinking in this way has really given me more subject for thought and so I will try to explore those avenues of thought during the remainder of the course. As I said in my feedback post, Following my tutors advice I am now less concerned on the quality of my work and can focus on including more research into my blog and assignments which will hopefully reflect in my assessors mark on completion.
